Automatic Configuration Using Templates

Overview

This documentation explains how to configure third-party device connections via TapHome’s Packet parser feature using pre-built templates.

Configuration Steps

The process involves four key actions:

1. Access Settings: Navigate to Settings → Hardware → Packet parser within the TapHome application

2. Select Template: Users can either:

   • Choose “Download templates” to access the latest configurations from the public GitHub repository
   • Select “Add from file” for custom XML templates

3. Configure Connection: Input necessary connection details including IP address or mDNS name, then specify which devices to create

4. Complete Setup: Click “Create” to generate the module with configured devices

Important Notes

Key Limitation: “Templates do not define any automatic actions (Smart Rules)” — users must configure automation separately if needed.

Custom Template Sharing

For unsupported devices, users can:

• Generate custom templates within the TapHome app
• Export templates to XML format
• Contribute templates to the public repository at: https://github.com/taphome-official/packetparser_templates

This community-driven approach allows other users to benefit from newly supported devices.
